 A corset is a female undergarment used to minimize the waistline and accentuate the breasts. An historical garment readily worn in the 18th and 19th centuries, the corset in modern times is worn with wedding attire or as lingerie.
Here are a few guidelines for purchasing an authentic corset.
1. Consider how often you will be wearing the corset. If you plan to wear one daily, avoid tight-laced items which constrict your waist (and breathing!) For occasional wear, a waist-cincher is ideal, such as an hourglass shape.
2. Shop for a corset based upon your need and style. If a corset is used as an undergarment for a wedding dress, it should be comfortable and the details (ribbons, lace) should not interfere with the look of the dress. A corset as simple lingerie can be as ornate or plain as you desire. Corsets come in a variety of colors to match the existing lingerie you own.
3. Choose a corset that fits your body type. The materials used to make corsets affect how the corset wears. Corsets are available in many materials including: pvc, leather and satin. Satin corsets offer the customer a wide color palette. For the plus-size woman, leather offers a bit of stretch and can be more comfortable.
4. Corsets come in a range of prices. Decide on a corset that fits your budget.
